Bilateral Meetings at Batumi Ministerial Conference
Within the framework of Eighth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference of UNECE Mr. Gigla Agulashvili, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Pasca Palmer, Minister of Environment, Water and Forests of the Republic of Romania. The parties discussed the issues of future cooperation between two countries in the field of environmental protection.
The cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Romania is conducted within the framework of the Convention on the Protection of the Black Sea against Pollution. Sharing the experience of Romania in the environmental reforms under the EU-association process is extremely important for Georgia. Moreover, Georgia expressed its interest in “Environmental Fund” operating in the Republic of Romania and financing “Green projects” with money gained from fees and fines imposed for environmental pollution.
Furthermore, the Parties reaffirmed the importance of green economic development and discussed development of joint projects in this field. Mr. Agulashvili underlined the importance of “Green Shipping” and noted, that Georgia is elaborating the strategy toward this direction.
